Besonders hervorzuheben: Der Ansatz, die OC nicht nach Stoffklassen "abzuarbeiten", sondern immer wieder zu betonen, wie alles miteinander zusammenhängt. Auf diese Weise werden "klassische OC" und "der Brückner" schön zu einer Einheit verwoben.

About the Author
K. ERIC DREXLER published the first scientific paper on molecular nanotechnology in 1981. In addition, he taught the first course on the subject (at Stanford University) and chaired the first two conferences. He is currently President of the Foresight Institute and a Research Fellow of the Institute for Molecular Manufacturing. He wrote Nanosystems while a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford University Department of Computer Science and continues to lecture at universities and corporations in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. He received his doctoral degree in molecular nanotechnology from MIT.

Finally we may play with the "building blocks of matter" we've been hearing so much about. Here is an instruction manual, detailing the Elements, and their Interactions, while at the same time suggesting possible Design Models for construcion.
Curious about the subject?
Start with Drexler's Engines of Creation, instead. Maybe some other collections of theoretical applications to whet your appetite. Come back to this when you begin to see a bigger picture.
Know some, want to know more?
Definately read. But be warned, it is quite techincal when it is not being necessarily vague. This is a halmark. The basis of this book was Drexler's thesis for his doctorate in Molecular Nanotechnology, the first awarded (MIT 1991, I believe).

Comprehensive treatise on nanotechnology theory

An outstanding book exploring the possibilities of nanotechnology in amazing detail. Dense textbook equations and charts fill the pages, but somehow Drexler's well-written prose transitions between complex concepts and offers explanations of technical points.

If we take an initially isotropic piece of metal, it becomes plastically anisotropic during the forming process, and the induced anisotropy progressively increases. This fact strongly determines directions of plastic flow, and it leads to an unexpected strain localization in sheet elements. To explain the above, it is necessary to take into account a polycrystalline structure of the metal, plastic slips on slip systems of grains, crystallographic lattice rotations, and at last, a formation of textures and their evolution during the whole deformation process. In short, it is necessary to introduce the plasticity of crystals and polycrystals. The polycrystal analysis shows that, when the advanced plastic strains take place, some privileged crystallographic directions, called a crystallographic texture, occur in the material. The texture formation and evolution are a primary reason for the induced plastic anisotropy in pure metals.

This book is about pipelines in many of the oil and gas producing countries. The aurthor takes the reader into the political and geographical regions of concern such as Nigeria with its pipelines being tampered with and secondary pipelines in Iraq and other parts of the Middle East. The only thing I wish the book had are more maps so the reader can get a general ideal of the area the aurthor talks about. There are maps but most of the maps start at the begining of each chapter, however the aurthor talks about many oil and pipeline localities but don't offer maps to illustrate his point. Overall I enjoyed this book, it was something different that I usually read but in this day and age you wonder why gas prices are so high and the book points that out.

Entries about important battles are marked by a stylized sunburst. When appropriate, articles are accompanied by informatively captioned black-and-white charts, battle maps, art reproductions, and/or vintage photos; all are followed by further reading suggestions. Adding significantly to the value of the set are the numerous boxed articles. Usually at least a page long, they offer, for example, biographies of military leaders and descriptions and histories of planes, ships, and various weapons. Chapters conclude with excerpts from primary documents, statistics, and an extensive bibliography. Volume 4 contains appendixes of general statistics, military ranks, and military awards and decorations; a glossary; a comprehensive bibliography; and chronological and general indexes. A Superb Work/Great Read

This is the second purchase of this book. I lost the first on a flight when I left it on the plane. I thought the work was good enough to justify tracking down another copy. Only the next edition. I'm still trudging through, but it is a must read, if you are a history buff. Who knew that China had it's own version of the TEA party around the 5th Century AD.
