Rise Up and Salute the Sun

After reading the first story "The Little Girl and the Sphinx" I felt like I had just had a personal conversation with GOD. The message was so simple a 7 yr old girl with a pure heart understood how to be a good person and live your life on the path of truth. I had to read it again almost immediately as I didn't want to miss any part of the message. This story drew me inside the conversation and it became my dialogue, and when a book or story can have that affect on the reader then that book is a quality read. Found the story and poetry to be a manual for living a conscious based life.

For those that are searching for truth, Suzy Kassem's "Rise Up and Salute The Sun" is the perfect guide in pointing readers towards the right direction to this life long endeavor. For those that are not yet seeking, "Rise Up and Salute The Sun" will do as the title suggests - awaken. Not only will it awaken but it will also plant seeds. I have been following the writings of Suzy Kassem online for a couple of years now after stumbling upon her "Style Is King" blog and will say that every piece she has written is timeless, relevant and effective and the same rings true for the words contained in the poems, short stories and parables in the book. What is most admirable about Suzy and her writings is the strong conviction in her words as well as her selflessness to share such deep knowledge and wisdom freely. Most importantly as a voice of our generation, her messages flow straight from the heart. In this upside down world we live in, her words lead, uplift and light the way to a better existence, on a personal, local and international scale.

Really made me think

While at school, I heard this writer speak, and was blown away. I borrowed a copy of this book from my professor, and it was both one of the most enlightening and disturbing things I have read. Disturbing in that it made me look at some of my beliefs in a completely different way, and question my way of thinking. This collection of short stories, poems, and thoughts from the author was a profound influence in my live, and I can not keep from telling others about it.

Really? Is the question that continued to come to mind. Story was totally unreal. If I read the statement "I love you with all my heart" I would have screamed. Vampires my butt a bunch of cry babies. On every single page someone is crying. The first two books on the series was cool but this was totally not worth it.

From the start I should have known this story was a loser. In the beginning Stephen sets out to explore the acceptance of his sexuality of being gay. In his exploration he choose the night club scenes of NYC. On the first night & very first club he finds his mate, who's being sexually assaulted by two men at the same time. His frees the man takes him to a hotel and they have sex. (Really?) After 3 years of being a sex slave wouldn't you think 1 night off would be acceptable? " Oh and by the way I'm a vampire." "Oh cool" (Really?)

This book was horrible. Everything was really sappy, the story line was bad and the writing was was even worse. All everyone did was cry and whine about everything that was happening to them. after I bought this book for my kindle, I regretted it right away. Do not by this book!

With a heart warming plot, this story gave me everything I look for in paranormal erotic story. We start with Stefan questioning his sexual orientation. As a big bad worrior he "must" mate a woman. Then he meets his mate a Man...Patrick who can overcome his past of suffering every type of abuse and abandonment imaginable and live happily ever after with Stefan. Very warm and loving relationship develops between the two.

What Houses Mean to Westerners

The Meaning of Home was actually a really pleasant read. I didn't know what to expect, but the author was full of wit and charm, and made what could have been a very dull topic full of life and humor.

This book simply takes a look at what various aspects of the house have meant over history, and what they mean - possibly - now. The author does admit that he is simply looking at Western views, as that is what he himself is familiar with, but he hopes that someone might do this from an Eastern point of view to compare the two.

You may wish to have some form of internet handy when reading this book, as the author does reference many paintings and books that I've never heard of or seen, so being able to look at the painting that he is discussing in his book might help lend a hand at understanding some of his points. But at the same time, I didn't get too detracted by not taking the time to look up a painting during my read of this book.

All in all, this book was a quick and pleasant read of what a house means to people in the Western world throughout history. I plan to keep this on my bookshelves, and will re-read it again in the future, with that internet handy this time around!

Zapheads aren't the only ones to fear!

Scott Nicholson and Joshua Simcox takes us back to the North Carolina mountains and life as it is in post-apocalyptic AFTER. We meet up with some "old friends" from the past; Lucas Krider (ex drug king pin), Mackie Dailey (ex hit man), among others, plus they introduce us to a cast of new characters (Janie isn't one going to be up for Mother Of The Year award any time soon!).

As if trying to survive the ever-adapting post-apocalyptic zombies of AFTER known as Zapheads wasn't enough, those that have survived also need to learn how to survive each other. One learns fairly quickly that in AFTER, Zapheads aren't the only things you need to protect yourself from.

This wonderfully told story marches towards a final showdown at a college campus that was thought to be a safe haven for all those inside. Along the way however, Scott and Joshua gives us another great story filled with characters you'll love and some you'll hate.

The World is getting weirder.

I love seeing how other people survive situations. As in the first book, it seems evil people have a genetic gene that let them survive. Or maybe people who are basically good can't do what they need to survive. Krider is still alive and Mackie is trying to be good, for him. But as the main series, the zapheads are changing. And that is scary. I know have the next book in book series. Now just finding time to read them.

This is Art...

This is a perfect example of brilliant writing. Not only was the storyline entertaining, action-packed, drama filled, and full of unexpected twists, but the writing was immaculate. You could feel the author's passion with every sentence, word choice, and punchline, making this an 'edge of your seat' read. Just when I thought I guessed the twist, the road of events went left. The ending was so intense that you are practically forced to anticipate part 2, but not in a bad way where you feel like the story just ended on a cliffhanger. I highly recommend this read if you are looking for a high quality form of urban fiction! Good job, my brother. Much success!

This book was absolutely amazing. Fast paced action packed and well written. Ty Marshall is the author to watch. He has the skill of an author that has been in the game a longtime. The. Characters are memorable and trust me some you will love to hate. Sin oo my gosh Boss status. He is the Man and his family he will having to protect by any means. He takes the lead after an unfortunate event but Trust me he was the right man for the job. There is drama and trust me the twist and turns of this book will have you winded. I will not offer up any spoilers so go download this book now you won't be disappointed.

About the Author

Dr. Gerald Z. Wright is a Diplomate and Past President of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is Professor Emeritus of Western University. Dr. Wright has edited four textbooks, written numerous peer-reviewed articles about behavior management of the pediatric dental patient and served on the editorial board of four journals. Dr. Wright is past Secretary General of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry and has received many professional honors, including receiving the Medal of Paris for his work with children, and the Honoris Doctoris Causa awarded by the Belarussian State Medical University for his work in that country.

Dr. Ari Kupietzky is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He served as a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Dentistry for Children and Pediatric Dentistry and is currently an abstracts editor for the latter journal. Dr. Kupietzky has published numerous articles on the topic of behavior management in leading journals of pediatric dentistry and authored two chapters in textbooks on behavioral dentistry and medical ethics. Currently, Dr. Kupietzky is performing research on the dental treatment of the very young child and practices pediatric dentistry in his private practice. He teaches part time at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the Hebrew University Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, and is Visiting Professor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Kupietzky is a popular speaker and has lectured throughout Europe and the United States.

About the Author
Raymond Carver was born in Clatskanie, Oregon, in 1938. His father was a saw-mill worker and his mother was a waitress and clerk. He married early and for years writing had to come second to earning a living for his young family. Despite small-press publication, it was not until Will You Please Be Quiet Please? appeared in 1976 that his work began to reach a wider audience. This was the year in which he gave up alcohol, which had contributed to the collapse of his marriage. In 1977 he met the writer Tess Gallagher, with whom he shared the last eleven years of his life. During this prolific period he wrote three collections of stories, What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, Cathedral and Elephant. Fires, a collection of essays, poems and stories, appeared in 1985, followed by three further collections of poetry. In 1988 he completed the poetry collection A New Path to the Waterfall.

Carver for friends

Try to rate a Carver short stories collection is like trying to rate your father actions. You just can't judge him, you only can stare at him. You can even try to understand him, but you don't really have to. There is something beautiful and small hidden in every adjective, every description, every end of a story. Raymond Carver's love for human actions is everywhere in his writing. He puts big attention in little details, uncovering the small moments in every relationationship. You and your wife. Your wife and her friends. Tons of couples having dinner with other couples. Every little thing is a whole world for Carver.
This book comes with four new stories recently discovered, a couple of great essays (the great "My father's life"), early stories, introductions, books reviews and a small uncomppleted fragment of a novel. Definitively, it's Carver for friends. If you are not familiar with his books, you should start with his most famous books, as "What we talk abgout when we talk about love", or his first collection of stories, "Will you please be quiet, please?". Any other case, you are welcome to enter this house.

New stories great; disappointing book for real Carver fans

I am excited that there are "new" stories by Raymond Carver. "Call If You Need Me" and "Kindling" are among his best. The rest of the book is disappointing to me: I didn't realize that this would just be the new stories tacked on to NO HEROICS, PLEASE. Essentially, serious readers of Carver's work are being asked to buy the same book twice. "Call If You Need Me" can be found in this year's O. Henry anthology, and "Kindling" can be found in the current edition of Best American Short Stories. The other new stories, I guess, can be found in past issues of Esquire magazine. If the new stories were instead collected in some other way - say, in a slim volume alone, or with some unpublished work by other worthy writers, then I wouldn't be as disappointed. I was expecting a new book altogether -- not just new pages. Still, these stories need to be read. NO HEROICS, PLEASE is a book worth owning, too. If you don't already own it, then I recommend this title. Otherwise, find the new stories elsewhere.
