Emmet Fox, who lived from 1886 to 1951, was born in Ireland. His father was a member of parliament, and Mr. Fox studied electrical engineering in England. In his early adulthood, Emmet Fox became interested in spirituality. Around 1930, he moved to the United States, and soon thereafter began lecturing on spiritual themes in New York City. Emmet Fox is the author of the famous Sermon on the Mount and many other books on spirituality. He is credited with serving as a major inspiration for the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). His writings are often classified as "New Thought."

Good Resource for American's moving to Canada

This book is probably the best book/resource that I have used being an American in Canada. I did buy the first edition a few years ago and found it a bit dated so I am glad it was revised with information more relevant to the changing laws. Its definitely a suggested read to anyone moving to Canada from the US and best used before your move. Its an easy read and stays at a fairly high level so anyone can understand it. It's not a substitute for professional advice for someone with a complicated situation. I'd probably advise reading it, marking up pages where you need clarification and consulting a professional.
This is not just a book for people moving permanently as many of the peculiarities pertain to people living here for even just a short duration (a year or two)

I would like to see it continually revised every couple years so that the information remains current.

Book Diguised as a Sales Pitch

There was a good deal of helpful financial information in this book for an American living in Canada. It provides an informative primer detailing the different financial laws & complications that one can incur when moving. But then it devolves into a sales pitch for the author's cross-border transitional planning business targeted at folks who "make friends easily" and "have a net worth of $2 million or more". I am thankful for the information which was shared, but I feel a bit duped. This book is really more of an advertisement to secure more high net worth clients than serve as a helpful resource to new residents of Canada.

Good introduction. Not enough to save you from very expensive accountants

Lots of great information and well worth the money as an introduction if you're considering a move. There's not a lot written on the subject so I appreciate the author for putting this together.

Why only three stars? While useful in making you aware of many issues, the book summary is 'there are a lot of complex topics that require professional services'. While that's definitely true, the author's website shows their firm charges a minimum of $US 10,500 to create your cross border financial plan.

In my opinion, a five star book would have enough detail to empower those with less than a few million in assets to help themselves. If you've had good experience with a book or cost effective firm for 'normal people, please post a comment.

Falls short

I am using this text for a graduate course and have read about halfway through. Overall, I've been disappointed. To be fair, cognitive neuroscience is a very interdisciplinary field and a comprehensive text has to introduce and expand on a ton of information. The field is exciting and advancing all the time, which is difficult to capture in a textbook. But this book could have been so much better. The early chapters in this text end up being poorly organized collections of key terms and their definitions, with a few brief descriptions of various studies thrown in for good measure. Very few headings separate the huge chunks of text. There are lots of images, but few charts to lend any sense of organization to connected ideas. Just my opinion, but such massive amounts of information need to be broken up and/or placed into some kind of visual hierarchy - as an introductory Cognitive Psych course might point out, highlighting the differences between various concepts aids memory for the concepts. Unfortunately, readers wade through definition after definition while the authors make little effort to connect and/or contrast concepts.

There are other study resources to complement the text - you can download a software program (which you will only have access to if you purchase a new book) for help with neuroanatomy. There are also online resources, but quizzes must first be set up by the instructor, and study quiz results are always emailed to the instructor (although this may be a setting that the instructor controls). Everyone learns in different ways, but I think this book could be better. You might end up having a good experience with this text if you have an instructor who can help reinforce the material.

Good, but not quite the book I was looking for.

A large portion of the book is dedicated to the history, design, and evolution of the PC. While it seems well written and is interesting, it is not particularly important to the topic of the book which is PC-based instrumentation and control. A little less than half the book (chapters 8-13) seems to be dedicated to the topic and is not as detailed as the first half the book which is not really on topic.

Useless book for practical purposes

Purely theoretical book. It very very little to C and C++ and the example is of a key board input. Being the book about instrumentation and control this is seems totally off.
This book is USELESS for practical purposes. If I wanted history and theory of pc instrumentation I would have gone to wikipedia.

This book is out of date. There's no mention of the USB serial interface or how to use it for PC-based instrumentation in this book. I should have bought a newer edition.

About the Author
Daniel Halpin is currently professor of Construction Engineering at Purdue University. He has written 3 books related to the area of Construction Management, and he is generally recognized as one of the leading authorities in the world on the use of simulation in studying construction processes. In 1987, he accepted the position of Head of the Division of Construction Engineering and Management at Purdue University. In 2003, he was elected a member of The National Academy of Construction.

Short, Grad Level Survey Coursebook

OUCH! ... and OUCH! I've purchased many texts based on reviews, sales rankings and preveiws, but this is my first major burn. With no reviews, I based my purchase on the high sales ranking. But I don't know who would find this a value. It is a high level survey text. Short chapters with min development. I know enough about the subject such that some chapters are total review while others are nowhere near complete for a topic new to a person. Physically short, small text overall - the white matter is 9/16" thick! Even has the audacity to include the "filler" appendices with copies of contracts. Well written with good grammar, lots of graphs etc. so it is obviously a university favorite somewhere, hopefully with an excellent instructor offering lots of additional commentary. But not remotely worth the whopping price, and wish the author would teach me his secret to publishing negotiations. Short of that, send me a check. Next version, add 200 pages and cut the coverage then add some depth. Maybe if I were in a different industry or discipline (e.g. banking, civil) and this was to be used for an MS/PhD elective?

Good resource for me!

I'm employed as Project Manager for a company which fabricates and erects steel framed commercial buildings. When I first began this job, many administrative processes were less-than-ideal. Chapter 17 covers Safety quite well. We have made changes to our documents and breifings which replicate the guidelines within this book!

I found Chapter 3 helpful. Change Orders are explained well enough for my needs.

Chapter 7 is titled, Project Scheduling. I'd hoped to learn about features and use of common software scheduling programs but instead rec'd a chapter of fairly useless math calculations and symbols which are largley irrelevant in 2007. Hey, software is the way to go!

In summary, I found this book to be well written and organized. I doubt it can be PERFECT for each and every Construction Manager but I'm glad this resource is on my shelf!

Construction Management Bible!!!!

This text is highly recommended as to understanding the basic principles of construction management.
This text takes through the entire construction process from preparing the bid package through legal procedures through phases during the project through project planning & scheduling to networking, labor, cash flow & control and the list goes on and on.
This text did not skip a beat on how the construction starts to the completion of the project.
Just talking about this text gives me the chills because it's well thought out and clear illustrations provide an invaluable depth of information on the construction business process.
I have recommended this text to some of my colleagues and they have thanked me for introducing them to this excellent text.
I can go on and on about the depths of this book but I can't. If you want to learn the construction process and the responsibly of a CM & the ins and outs of running a successful construction project this is the text for you. No doubt!
I took this CM class and thought I know a good portion of the construction process but, this book opened my eyes to some many things that I never imagined that needs to be known. What I thought I know was just the process of one trade and this text took me from the owner to CM to the contractors though litigations etc.
Again, if you want to learn the construction process from start to finish and all elements included with the construction process then this is the book for you.
This book is a sure keeper!!!!!!

At First Bite is a fun vampire story for tweens and younger readers. This is the second book in the Poison Apple series I've read, and boy do I wish these were around when I was younger. This story introducers readers to tween vampire, Ashlee Lambert, who moves from her posh NYC apartment out to to L.A. were her famous mother gets her own reality tv as a judge. Ashlee not only has to make new friends and deal with a whole new school, but she's still learning about being a vampire. The cool thing about the vampires in this book is that they shift into bats, don't drink animal blood and can go outside. Though she's the lone vampire in her family (who have no idea she is one), Ashlee has a mentor there to help her. Things get a little out of hand once she's in L.A.

Though Ashlee's kind are the "good" vampires and drink Sanga, a blood substitute for human blood since they don't attack humans, there are vampires called the Dark Ones. These vampires do attack humans and it's up to Ashlee to figure out who the Dark One is at her new school that keeps attacking the students and staff. Ashlee for me was a fun character to read about and one I think fans of this series will enjoy meeting. It's not just the paranormal part of this story that makes it a fun read, but also the relatable side to it as well. Ashlee learns some important lessons at her new school like what being a true friend is all about, and having money and being with the popular crowd isn't always as fun as it seems.

This is a fun read and one I'd recommend for both younger and tween readers. It's clean cut and a great introduction into both this series and paranormal themed books.

Great chapter book for 3-4th grade girls!

I just finished reading AT FIRST BITE after waiting forever for the sequel to THIS TOTALLY BITES. It was totally worth the wait. As with THIS TOTALLY BITES, this book has a fast-moving story and great characters, and is a perfect choice particularly for reluctant readers. With all the attention these days on YA novels, a lot of parents are wondering how early their kids can read Twilight and Hunger Games, etc. AT FIRST BITE and THIS TOTALLY BITES (along with other Poison Apple books) are much more appropriate choices for younger readers. As a parent of kids in this age group, I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Once bitten you will be hooked on Poison Apple Books.

This series has been out for a few years now and this latest, the 8th book in the series, is the second to repeat an author. This series is a dark off-shoot of their popular Candy Apple Books. This series, Poison Apple Books, is amazing. The books explore such things as ghosts, vampires, haunting and other darker tales. Unlike most fluffy books for young girls, these tales have a little more grit but still have some humour and really fun reads.

This story continues shortly after This Totally Bites! Ashley Samantha Lambert is twelve years old, with blond hair and blue eyes, at her old school in New York she had been top of the social ladder, and then last fall she became a vampire. Now her family has moved to L.A. and things just seem to keep going downhill. Then she finds out she is living in a house famed for a vampire film, and the school play is the same story as that film: At First Bite. But not only are things rough for Ashley, she soon finds herself looking to uncover a dark one, a vampire that is attacking people. The Perfect life she pictured in L.A is not so perfect and life is even more complicated than she ever expected.

This book was another great read in a wonderful series. Give it a try.

Tim Thompson is a Reader in Biological and Forensic Anthropology at Teesside University, where he also acts as a consultant forensic anthropologist. Most of his research examines the effects of burning on the skeleton and how this can help interpret the context of death. He is also interested in the relationship between identity and identification, modification of the body in the modern context, and the role of forensic anthropology in the world at large.

This book will change your perspective about the truths in the bible and what Jesus actually did as far as delivering people from demons. Things the church has turned it's head from concerning the evil that is in this world through Lucifer's influence. Some things in this book will horrify you, however, the truth is unveiled. Tim Thompson reveals some of the horrible acts that occur here and other places in the world through the worship and deception of the devil and his followers. An awesome read for anyone, especially those in true ministry or helping others in deliverance ministries.
