Must read for all Cabot witches and witches everywhere.

I am a Cabot initiate from about 20 years ago. This book is a valuable resource of Laurie's lifetime of teaching. Unlike other more secretive traditions, the Cabot Book of Shadows is open and available to all who seek the wisdom of the Craft. Laurie's straightforward writing style makes the information highly accessible. There is no other volume on witchcraft of which I am aware that is this comprehensive.

Unlike many traditions, Laurie's take on witchcraft is based in science. You will learn about Alpha brain waves and how you can readily access your relaxed, subconscious mind, visualizing and projecting your thoughts, leading to their ultimate realization. She teaches you protection, and how to avoid mental traps that lead to backfiring of projections. The art and religion of witchcraft build upon this foundation.

Whether you are seeking initiation into the Cabot Tradition, or looking to broaden your knowledge, your investment of time with this book will lead to solid spiritual enrichment.

Worthwhile theory and practice for all witches

Very interesting and informative take on witchcraft as a science- and as a literal craft. Gives you pretty much the whole course, including reading list, for initiation into the Cabot tradition. As a solitary, the rituals were essentially a no-go for me, but coveners will probably like the unique take on Wiccan ritual, via an Arthurian bent. The section on being a member of the magical clergy is also refreshing and something I haven't seen very often. The exercises and meditations were instructive and personably related, and I enjoyed the first section's workbook feel. I would recommend this for anyone, beginner or more experienced.

This is such a great book. It is like Laurie is sitting there talking to you, or taking you around town and sharing bits of her knowledge with you. She is definitely one of a kind. I love the way the book is written. It is straightforward, no nonsense. I am so glad she decided to share at least some of what she knows with whomever wishes to know it. She is not ashamed of calling herself a witch. I applaud her outspokenness and her intelligence. She really walks the walk. Great book for anyone, not just those interested in witchcraft.

Academy is what you will love and read several times

The book is really marvelous. When I read it first time I could not stop reading and put the book aside till I come to the last page.
You will find in this book a good combination of the romantic line, detective story and description of the fantasy world. Main heroes are alive and properly signed. From the beginning you start to empathize with Deya. She is young and smart and makes everything to be independent woman. A mistake with the curse by coincidence brings love in her life. Main hero – Lord Rian like all dark Lords is very strong man who in spite of the obstacles always receives what he wants, especially a woman, his woman. It was intriguing to follow the development of their relationship.
The book worth the time which you will spent for reading.

The book is just amazing! Full of mystery, adventures, arcane worlds and true love. And everything is written with subtle humor. You just cannot put this book away till the very end. And then you became the part of the book or the book starting to be the part of your life filling it with magic and light. You will never be disappointed with this book couse it will make your life fuller, brighter and more vivid. It filled all around me with fresh air...
I would really love to see the movie on this!

One of my favorite books

This is a great book by my favorite author and now I can read it in English! It was the first book about magical academies that I have read and it introduced me to Ellen's wonderful universe. I have read dozens of books written in this genre but this story still stands out as one of the best. I have re-read this book about 4-5 times and still it is one of my most loved books. It captivates you with it's intrigues, love story and very well developed characters. Before you know it, you finished the book and want to open the next one in this series.

Great read!

Having read all of the Holding Their Own books to date, I was excited to see that a new one was added to the collection. While the Salt Wars was a bit stale, this one had more of the excitement inherent to the previous publications. While those picking this up as their first read might feel a bit lost, it's always been a pet-peeve of mine to have half of a sequel spent recapping the previous works to keep the reader up to speed. Thankfully, Joe Nobody apparently share my attitude, and I appreciate being able to jump right back into Bishop and Terri's world right where we left off. It was a very enjoyable read, and I highly recommend it!

Time to root for the Indians?

Joe Nobody's body of work needs to be taken as a whole. The books, in general, stand on their own, and at least in terms of the "Holding Their Own" series are tied together by the adventures of Bishop and Terri. But taken as a collection, they are an exploration (grantedly an exploration from a single person's vantage point, of theories of governments and what happens when they collide. The Toymaker raises the issue of rights to resources. Certainly the Native American theme adds to it, but I am not a fitting judge to speak on the authenticity of their perceptions. Still (spoiler alert), the key issue is who has a right to divert rivers to irrigate crops. To what lengths can a people (morally) go to preserve their respective societies if there is a cost to other people. And what lengths are a people morally entitled to go to get it back. The women in the books are the voices of moderation, reason and compromise. The only problem I have is that I'm too old and fat to do the things that Bishop does on a regular basis.

It has been a rough two years since the financial and biological warfare fall of the USA. Almost two thirds of the population has died due to starvation and disease. The survivors are barely getting by and the various regions are splitting apart.

The Texas Alliance is slowly rebuilding and even reintroducing the concept of cash money. But getting along with the neighbors is proving to be difficult.

About the Author

Rod K. Dishman, PhD, is a professor of exercise science, adjunct professor of psychology, and the director of the Exercise Psychology Laboratory at the University of Georgia at Athens. He is also adjunct professor in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. Dr. Dishman is a reviewer for more than 50 journals, including Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and American Journal of Public Health. He has served on editorial boards of numerous journals in preventive medicine and public health, such as Exercise and Sport Science Reviews, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, and Health Psychology and as an exercise consultant to public health agencies in the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has published approximately 150 peer-reviewed articles and written or edited several books related to physical activity and health.

Dr. Dishman is an American College of Sports Medicine fellow, where he has served as a member of the Research Advisory Committee and the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the jury for selection of the Olympic Prize in Sport Sciences awarded by the International Olympic Committee's Medical Commission and served on the scientific advisory committee for the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. He resides in Athens, Georgia.

Gregory Heath, DHSc, MPH, has been contributing to the field of exercise science and health promotion for over 25 years. Dr. Heath is Guerry professor and head of the department of health and human performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Previously, he worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as lead health scientist in the Physical Activity and Health Branch. He has extensive experience in conducting studies and data analyses in the areas of physical activity epidemiology and public health practice.

Dr. Heath is a fellow in the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Sports Medicine. He earned his doctor of health science degree in applied physiology and nutrition and his master's of public health in epidemiology from Loma Linda University.

I-Min Lee, MBBS, MPH, ScD, is an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, an associate professor of epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, and associate epidemiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Her main research interest is in the role of physical activity in promoting health and preventing chronic disease. This extends to characteristics associated with a physically active way of life, such as maintenance of ideal body weight. She also is concerned with issues relating to women's health. Lee has published more than 190 peer-reviewed articles and is a frequent invited presenter, teacher, and speaker at local, national, and international levels.

A reviewer for 30 journals, including Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine, Lee also serves on the editorial board for Harvard Women’s Health Watch, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, and the Brazilian Journal of Physical Activity and Health.

Lee is an elected member of the American Epidemiological Society and a member of the Society for Epidemiologic Research, the American Heart Association, and the International Society for Physical Activity and Health. She is a member and fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has served on the ACSM’s Research Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees. Dr. Lee also served on the scientific advisory committee for the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

Lee is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, in particular the Young Epidemiologist Award from the Royal Society of Medicine in the United Kingdom (1999); the William G. Anderson Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (2007); the Charles C. Shepard Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2009); and the ACSM’s Citation Award (2011).

Lee resides in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Mrs Hargreaves comes to life

I read this book a few months ago. It is sort of a guilty pleasure and an escape from reality. I fully put myself into James' character and found my heart pounding with fear unlike other books where you analyze from a distance. I suggested to my girlfriend that she read the book and the next thing I know she buys 1880 period clothes and boots (Miss Hargreaves), a beautiful chestnut 140 year old bedroom set, a set of Lochgelly tawses from Scotland, a one meter dragon cane, ropes and straps etc. etc!!! She is a very strict school teacher in real life and I think reading this book has brought out the dominate female in her. Well, I go and visit her and she is immaculately dressed with her hair and nails done looking right out of 1880. I am looking at Mrs Hargreaves! I go along for fun or so I thought since we trust and love each other. I find myself bare, tied up in a most compromising way and tawsed senseless as she played Phantom of the Opera. She says it's the most enjoyable and exciting thing she ever did. Annie Bee seems to really knows her stuff because everything she mentioned happened to me. This book has given me mixed feelings, excitement, a really sore backside and a girlfriend who says she has found her inner self.

Exactly what it says!

A very solid corporal punishment book with above average descriptions. Tawes, canes, paddle's and some sex scenes. Although the punishment is the focus. It is primarily F/m and F/f and it contains exactly what the title says. When you break the rules of your rental you get punished at the birching block.

Dr. Daniel A. Langer and Prof. Dr. Oliver P. Heil (Ph.D.) on why they wrote this book: "Part of the purpose of this book is to decode luxury by answering the questions about what luxury is and how to manage it. We present several new findings that significantly broaden the scope of luxury research, providing one of the first comprehensive dissections of luxury."  In this book the authors carefully analyze the nature of luxury in a systematic manner for the purpose of developing a sound basis for marketing luxury products and understanding luxury markets. The fundamental propositions and characteristics of luxury are presented, and the primary luxury 'drivers' are described. More specific areas of the luxury experience are then analyzed in more detail.  These include quality and aesthetics, the purchase situation, the consumption situation, the cultural and social frame, consumer segmentation, geographical differences, product categories, and branding. It concludes with strategic advice to marketing managers.  Driven by the finding that hypothetically all categories could have a luxury tier, and the conclusion that many luxury brands are not managed appropriately, the authors provide managers with comprehensive toolsets and strategies to manage luxury in a more competitive, profitable and sustainable way. 

About the Author
Daniel André Langer is Senior Vice President & GM North America at Henkel Beauty Care. Before that he fulfilled several international responsibilities at Henkel, including Corporate VP SBU Body Care as well as Marketing Director in Germany, Japan & International Hair Care. He is also a Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at the University of Mainz. The author holds a Ph.D. and a Masters degree from the University of Mainz. He also studied in Madrid and attended executive education at Harvard, IESE and Thunderbird. He presented his research on luxury and innovation at several leading research conferences and events in the USA and Europe. Dr. Langer’s research focuses on deepening our understanding of luxury. Importantly, the marketing of regular products can benefit substantially from luxury research findings in terms of identifying different and creative strategies enhancing innovativeness, competitiveness and profitability of fast moving consumer goods. Oliver Heil is the Chaired Professor of Marketing at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz (Germany). He holds a Ph.D. as well as a Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. The author taught at Wharton, UCLA, IU, Lingnan and HKUST. His publications appeared in leading scientific journals and he co-authored several books. As the recipient of various academic honors he currently serves on several boards and lectures on a variety of topics. Prof. Heil is working on identifying optimal sizes and formats for limited editions of luxury products and identifying causal factors of luxury design. Also, he is working on applying the luxury index toward regular products such as fast moving consumer goods as well as luxury products to enhance branding strategies. Prof. Heil is organizing a global luxury event bringing together managers, researchers and customers dealing with luxury products. The authors are co-directors of the Center for Research on Luxury at the University of Mainz, which has the ambition to pioneer the research on luxury and to provide world-class publications and education on the topic. Great book on Luxury

This book is a truly comprehensive publication about luxury. Those who ever wondered what luxury is all about will get all their questions answered.
I would recommend it both for students and professionals.
An aspect I found particularly striking is the ability of luxury goods to provide some kind of shelter and protection in social contexts. Another is the enhancement of attractiveness. And there are many more. The authors argue that those hidden aspects provide a perceived value to consumers that exceed by far "normal" perceived values by observable product attributes, hence increasing the willingness-to-pay.

This book, “Luxury Marketing and Management” by Dr. Daniel A. Langer and Prof. Dr. Oliver P. Heil, is an instructive interesting read that pulls back the curtain on managing luxury goods to improve both their profitability and sustainability. Dr. Langer and his co author have precisely dissected the layers of luxury to provide the manager of these types of goods insightful and thorough guidelines for creating, maintaining and growing a luxury brand.

Real world examples of luxury brands such as Rolex® watches, Louis Vuitton® bags and Bentley® automobiles spice up the text with lessons that any marketing manager interested in the subject can easily master. And the bonus is that the guidelines and insights can also be applied to the marketing of more ordinary consumer goods or goods that may provide an entry into the luxury market for future consumers. As the authors insightfully state, “. . . all categories have the potential to develop a luxury tier.”

I would definitely recommend this book to any business manager, student or consumer of luxury goods interested in an informative and useful read through the previously diamond veiled world of marketing luxury goods.

One of the great things about being in an industry for many years is, if you are open-minded, the possibility exists to learn about your profession anew. I've been in the luxury industry for 30 years as a manager, buyer, salesperson and merchandiser. Daniel Langer's book has provided me with new insights on luxury; what motivates consumers, how they think, how they evaluate and perceive luxury and most important what factors make them purchasers. We are, after all, in an irrational business. A certain amount of suspension of disbelief must take place when someone is making a significant purchase. Langer's booked is backed with solid research and delineates the factors about consumer behavior that anyone in the luxury business needs to know. This is a very useful tool for owners, managers, buyers, salespeople...anyone involved in presenting and selling luxury goods.

This is the first-ever book on computational group theory. It provides extensive and up-to-date coverage of the fundamental algorithms for permutation groups with reference to aspects of combinatorial group theory, soluble groups, and p-groups where appropriate. The book begins with a constructive introduction to group theory and algorithms for computing with small groups, followed by a gradual discussion of the basic ideas of Sims for computing with very large permutation groups, and concludes with algorithms that use group homomorphisms, as in the computation of Sylowsubgroups. No background in group theory is assumed. The emphasis is on the details of the data structures and implementation which makes the algorithms effective when applied to realistic problems. The algorithms are developed hand-in-hand with the theoretical and practical justification.All algorithms are clearly described, examples are given, exercises reinforce understanding, and detailed bibliographical remarks explain the history and context of the work. Much of the later material on homomorphisms, Sylow subgroups, and soluble permutation groups is new.

Correct

This book has a lot of pseudo-code. These are of the right detail and are correct. I used these algorithms (with my own modifications) to implement the Schreier-Sims method to solve Rubik's Cube - and found no mistakes or important "side issues" left out. This is a "computational" book, and not an introduction into Group Theory (or Permutation Groups), even though the concepts are briefly discussed.

Written by one of the pioneers in the field, This book encompass an excellent and deep introduction to the fundamental algorithms necessary to deal with permutation groups. The algorithms are clear, concise and accurate.
