Over the past few years we have come across many ScrumMasters who have great intentions of running training but then get bogged down in the planning and preparation and don't ever get round to actually doing it.
We have been training teams in Scrum for about three years. Over the past year we have trained Certified ScrumMaster classes worldwide. During this time we have spent many hours preparing training plans and creating workbooks, flipcharts and slides. Our materials have been continually refined from feedback after each course. All our training uses Training from the Back of the Room principles.
This book is a collection of all of our materials. It will help you plan and deliver interactive, fun Scrum training for anything from a short workshop on a particular topic to a full two-day course. A participative approach that works!

Samantha and Karen did a truly remarkable job with this book.
If you need to deliver Scrum training, this is an obvious no-brainer. Why would you want to reinvent the wheel? Take it as a baseline for your own training!
But there is more.
Way too many workshops nowadays are simple glorified lectures containing the occasional exercise. This traditional approach may scale and feel "safe" for the instructor. Plenty of research demonstrates, however, that it simply doesn't work for adult learners.
This book is based on the highly-participative "Training From the Back of the Room!" 4C instructional model.
I came across this model while designing my own workshops. Frankly, I can't imagine ever going back to the traditional method of delivery and I would think twice before paying for any workshop that doesn't contain a strong participative component "by design".
If you develop any training material and the "respect for people" principle has any meaning to you, I'd strongly suggest to have a deep look into this approach. Your participants will inevitably thank you for that (and some weird person may even come to your workshop "because" of that ;-)).
The problem is that it is quite rare to find complete real-word examples for inspiration. Let's face it: professional trainers are (understandably) protective of their own material and hard work, so I can't even begin to tell you how glad I was to discover this book. Definitely full marks from me.

Not just for Scrum trainers...

I bought this book a few months back from Leanpub. I wanted to see their approach for training Scrum, and, I was not disappointed. The 4Cs model and its application has been one of the key learnings for me. The book is a quick read but you'd need to come back to it often and it should have a permanent place in your book shelf if you are a trainer. The applicability of the training method can be easily adapted for any type of technical or non-technical training.
Not just for Scrum trainers, any trainer would take atleast a few key takeaways after reading this book. And for $25, it is not a deal, it is a steal.

A very useful Scrum Master Tool

Sam and Karen have managed to create a fantastically useful tool. This guide not only gives a base for training scrum in organisations, but is also very useful for designing your own course based on what your teams need.
The book is well written, clear and so valuable for Scrum Masters and coaches alike.
